Bus Drivers Needed

There are people living in neighboring retirement communities whose only way to get to church is on our bus, and we need more drivers to keep the service going. If you are interested in driving the bus once a month on Sunday mornings or for special events, contact Rev. Gary Rideout at garyr(at)fumcwp.org. Drivers need a commercial driver’s license and the church will help with acquiring it.

Act II - Ballroom Dancing

Act II, our ministry for those age 50 and over, is participating in the ballroom classes that are being held on Tuesdays at the Winter Park Farmer’s Market. The cost for eight sessions is $80. Contact Carol Holloway at hollowayplanb(at)aol.com if you would like to attend.


Jobs Partnership

Jobs Partnership of Florida has its largest class ever coming through this spring. They are in particular need of packages of new undershirts and boxers. Journey (Young Adult) Class

During the month of February, the Journey Sunday School Class is meeting at 11:00 in Room 319 of the Matthias Family Life Center. This class is for singles and couples in their mid-20s to mid-30s. They focus on discussion of faith and social issues from a Biblical perspective using current events.


Connection, Awareness, Resources and Education (CARE)

Do you want to know how to journey with and support someone who has a chronic illness such as diabetes, fibromyalgia, or Parkinson’s? Dr. Art Cross and Rev. Franklin Faine will present an overview on how to help those with chronic disease by using the Connection, Awareness, Resources, and Education (CARE) model on Thursday evening, 6:00 to 8:30 on February 9Register online or contact Betsy McKeeby at the church (407-644-2906, ext. 237).


Broadway Bound

Our Music Ministry will present Broadway Bound on Friday, February 10 (dinner and show), and Saturday, February 11 (dessert and show). Music selections will be from Mary Poppins, Cinderella, and George M. Tickets will be available Sunday in the courtyard and during the week in the church office. Proceeds will benefit the Youth Choir’s summer mission tour. 


New Member Class

Highway 45 to Fun Spot

Highway 45, for fourth and fifth graders, is going to Fun Spot Orlando on Sunday, February 12, 1 to 5 p.m. Cost is $27.00. Register online.

 


Improving Life – Moving Ahead after Physical Adversity

Dr. William C. Jarvis, Ed.D. will speak on his recovery and rehabilitation following a life-threatening brain injury from a car accident on Thursday, February 16, at 6:30 p.m.,in Room 313 of the Matthias Family Life Center. Dessert and coffee will be served.


Hannah's Closet

Hannah’s Closet, a consignment sale of children’s clothes, baby equipment, and toys (no stuffed animals) will be held at the church March 2 and 3. Those interested in placing items in the sale will find all the information they need on the Hannah's Closet page. Drop off times for sale items are Tuesday, February 28, 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, February 29, 9 to 11:30 a.m.


Ruth Circle Rummage Sale

The Ruth Circle is holding a rummage sale March 2 and 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall. You may bring items for the sale to the east end of fellowship hall Monday, February 27, through Thursday, March 1. For more information call Alison McClelland at 407-761-8043. Proceeds from the sale will benefit local missions supported by the Ruth Circle. 


 

Encounter Student Retreat

Registration for Student Ministries’ biggest retreat of the year, Encounter, is now underway. Encounter will take place on March 2-4 at Warren Willis Camp in Leesburg. This three-day retreat is an opportunity for renewal, inspiration, and fellowship. The cost is $160, but students who register before February 14 will save $20. Women's Retreat

Mark your calendar for the Journey of a Woman’s Heart 2012: Women’s Retreat, Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Mission Inn Resort & Club. Three speakers – Merrill Frailey, Rev. Jayne Rideout and Jennifer Lee – will share topics throughout the day. The church buses will be available to take women to the Mission Inn and bring them back to church at the end of the day. Created By God, parents and the church partnering to prepare preteens (fifth graders) with a healthy, faithful understanding of human sexuality, is April 20-22, at Warren Willis Camp, a Florida United Methodist Camp near Leesburg. Please refer to their website for additional information and registration.

Fall Wednesday Night Dinner

Wednesday Night Dinners has resumed in the Matthias Family Life Center gym from 5:30 to 6:30. The cost is $7.00 for adult meals and $4.00 for children’s meals. Click here to see the menu and make reservations.


Camaraderie Foundation

Our ministry has connected with the Camaraderie Foundation. Camaraderie’s mission is to provide supplemental spiritual, emotional and counseling support for servicemen and women and their families. Military Outreach Ministry

The Military Outreach Ministry is seeking to identify currently deployed men and women of the Armed Services. The ministry periodically collects items for and sends care packages to these brave men and women. In addition, we reach out to the families of deployed service men and women and identify ways to support them.

Student Ministries of Winter Park United Methodist Church is the Neighborhood Ambassador of MyWinterParkFl.com. It’s our community’s free web site, featuring community activities and merchants. Businesses and services that wish to be a sponsor of the community site will also provide financial help for the programs and missions of the church’s Student Ministries. Resource Center

Plan to visit the Resource Center, located on the second floor of the Matthias Family Life Center, this summer. You will discover new books, DVDs and resource material. There are also books for children of all ages. Visit the Resource Center page to see a list of new books.


We Need Your Unused Routers

Do you have any routers at home or the office that you aren't using anymore?  Well, we can use them!  If you would like to donate yours, bring it by the church office during the week or find Chris around campus.  Email Chris is you have any questions.


Act II, a ministry for 50+

Join the Act II gathering on Thursday evenings at 6:30 at Cafe 310 on Park Ave. No reservations needed. You can have a meal or simply coffee or dessert. The idea is to gather for laughter and conversation.
